LAKELANDS SHOW
Lakelands ran their first ever showjumping show on the 12th of March at Beechlane Equestrian Centre Cavan. Some of the clubs in the area got together to try and run one show a month and this was the first of them. There were representatives from Lakelands, Redhills and Killykeen and a great nights fun was had by all present. The first class was clear round jumping for Primary and Advanced Primary riders followed by their individual classes. Then clear round jumping for the Intermediate and Advanced Intermediate riders followed by their individual classes. It was a great chance to get some points for the Midlands League Table and practice for the AIRC Showcase event on the 22nd of March.  Full results on results page

LAKELANDS LEAD THE WAY IN AIRC SHOWCASE EVENT
Lakelands Riding Club members had a very successful outing to the AIRC showcase event held at Necarne Irvinstown Co Fermanagh. Six members competed and four collected ribbons. First out were our primary riders. This was Ann Farrelly’s first event away from home and while she didn’t manage a clear she really enjoyed her day. This is after all what riding

club is all about. Lynn O’Toole and Rosemary Armstrong were our other Primary riders and they came fifth and sixth respectively. They also competed on the Primary pairs where their skills for teamwork were really displayed. They succeeded in coming first and were loudly cheered by their supporters for this great achievement. Well done ladies.
Next to compete was Michelle Humphries in the Intermediate dressage. This took place in the indoor arena where it was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop!!! Michelle on coming out after her test said ‘that’s a disaster’ but the judges didn’t think so and she finished in a creditable 7th place.
Emma Reynolds was unlucky in the Advanced Primary when two poles fell in her second round.
Jacinta Magennis who moved up to Advanced Intermediate this year was our only representative in this class. She had an unlucky pole down in her individual class but decided to put her name down for the Intermediate/Advanced Intermediate teams. Fortunately there were others there without members to make a full team. Each team member had to jump two rounds, each of which were jumped in single rounds. This really built up the pressure on the riders especially the team that Jacinta was jumping on, as they were the last to go. However they kept their cool and when Jacinta jumped a second clear round they knew they could not be beaten even if their fourth rider didn’t jump.   There was a ear-splitting cheer when she went through the finish. This again shows the
comradeship which being a riding club member brings to this sport.
This showcase event was well organised [which we are familiar with already] enjoyable with something for every grade of rider and every type of horse. Along with the jumping and dressage there were showing classes of all types and also a mini Trec competition. Well done to the AIRC for organising this event for everyone, hopefully it will become and annual event from now on.   See Results page

CLUB MEMBER OF THE YEAR

Brian Tully has been voted Club Member of the Year and was presented with the perpetual trophy at the Christmas Party night in the Kilmore Hotel Cavan.
This trophy has been presented for the past two years in memory of Margaret Cooney who was a member of Lakelands Riding Club.
I was very honored to present this trophy to Brian who has been a Lakelands member for many years.  He seldom misses a club night and is a regular and successful competitor.  Well done Brian.
